I am beyond grateful to you all for becoming subscribers of this little community and supporting my writing
When I started, I had no idea what engagement I would receive, and it is so uplifting to see you choosing to read further.
That said, I also know that, like any Nation, several tribes have been attracted to come here to read, and that was why I intentionally created different Sections for my writing.
Some, like The Briefing Room, are long-form, relatively in-depth white paper/report-style writings. They're pretty business-related, but occasionally technical in nature. Not everyone’s cup of tea, coffee, or Kombucha!
Others, like the Blethering section, are for more casual, informal ramblings from your author and may be about Scottish Culture, my Lung Transplant experience, or the latest sci-fi or fantasy TV show I’m obsessing over.
What to do?
As a victim of inbox overload myself, not everyone may be happy to receive an email newsletter that delves deeply into Microsoft’s AI technology. Similarly, perhaps someone else doesn’t want to hear my reminiscences about Scottish Folk Music from the 1970s (although that wouldn’t shock me, LOL!).
I wanted to share a couple of tips to help you navigate and focus on the stuff that really interests you.
If you have a Substack account, after signing in, you’ll see a screen that looks something like this. Click on the icon in the top right corner, which will open a drop-down menu. Then, from the drop-down menu, select Settings (highlighted in red below).
You’ll next see a screen that shows a number of settings. In particular, you need to find 'Subscriptions' and then locate 'Haverin About' on that list. Click the right-facing arrowhead (highlighted in green), and it will open your settings for my newsletter.
You’ve now reached the good bit. You now see a series of toggle buttons (highlighted in red) beside each section, which should all appear switched on by default. This is the default setting for every section when you first subscribe to my publication.
And now for the cool part. If you would like to focus on just one (or more) of the sections, you can click the toggle switches for the sections you are NOT interested in to OFF, and you should stop receiving emails for that section.
You will, of course, still be able to access all the content here on Substack; you just won’t get an email every time I publish an article or a note in that section.
** PLEASE leave the top ‘Haverin About’ section turned on as I will only use that Section for updates about my site or a once a month Digest post of what you may have missed in the various Sections during the month**.
The second tip is that if you click on the Unsubscribe link in one of the newsletter updates, you will be presented with this screen and these options as well. I would really like you to stay.
I honestly would like everyone to enjoy everything I write, and you can always do so on the Substack website or app.
However, I know Inbox overload is a real thing. Hopefully, this shows I want you to have the experience you want and need without becoming frustrated by overload. I can get pretty passionate and prolific from time to time, so I get it.
One last favor.
Please take a moment to provide feedback by clicking on this quick poll and sharing your thoughts on this approach, what do you think of it, and what are you interested in following?
Once again, thank you for being along for the ride :-)
